Neighbourhood security operations: local service aimed at promoting a sense of safety

The SPVM has increased police presence in the north-east part of Montréal following a series of violent incidents involving firearms that occurred in summer and fall 2020.

Three major neighbourhood security operations were conducted during this period. Mobile command stations have been set up and police officers from different units have been deployed in the field. A door-to-door operation was also carried out to reassure residents and, at the same time, encourage them to cooperate with investigations by sharing any relevant information. Furthermore, the SPVM established bonds with local partner organizations to sound out the areas concerned and more effectively reach the public.

The public’s cooperation is essential for neighbourhood security operations and the fight against firearms. Each new piece of information gathered helps advance investigations, carry out arrests, searches and seizures of firearms.
