During the summer, the neighbourhood police station 21, the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and the Société de développement social deployed the Multidisciplinary Community Concertation Team, E=MC2, to the homeless at Place Émilie-Gamelin.
Adopting an innovative approach, E=MC2 brought together police officers, social workers, nurses, educators and social mediators who were set up in containers converted into service counters. Ranging from prevention, basic and referral medical services, psychosocial support, mediation to crisis management, E=MC2 offered vulnerable individuals access to the health, social services and community network based close to their living environment.
Other organizations joined E=MC2 on a sporadic or regular basis, such as, in particular, Urgences-santé and the Centre for the Prevention of Radicalization Leading to Violence. This pilot test was made possible thanks to the financial contribution by Info-Crime Montréal as well as the collaboration of the Ville-Marie borough and the Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles, which hosted E=MC² at Place Émilie-Gamelin.
