On November 13, 2020, the SPVM mounted a major police operation at the offices of the video game designer Ubisoft after a call reporting a hostage-taking. In the end, no threat was detected and all occupants were able to return home safe and sound after a rather turbulent day.
The intervention was conducted in line with best practices and Ubisoft employees were supported through effective cooperation between the SPVM, its community partners and the Ville de Montréal.
An investigation was launched to throw light on this incident. The findings of this investigation will determine whether the incident was the result of a frivolous call. If this is the case, the person or persons responsible may face a charge of public mischief.
